Whether journalism is a profession is one of the oldest, continuing controversies in journalism. It used to be easier to take sides when the debate was simply whether journalism was a profession or a business. Liberals lined up on the side of professionalism while conservatives liked to see journalism as a profit-making enterprise. But those were simpler times. Today we can look back on a half century of striving by journalists and journalists organisations to achieve professional status.
Journalism is commonly regarded as a profession made up of professional communicators, dedicated to professional standards. Journalists themselves believe this and even some of the most snobbish of American institutions engaged in the study of the professions consider journalists-warts and all-to be professionals.
The Book titled "Professional Journalism" has been brought out with the main objective of enlightening the readers regarding the very profession of journalism besides technical as well as science reporting and the elements of good writing.
We are sure that this book will be quite useful to the students of Bachelor of journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) and of master of Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC) besides researchers under going M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degree programmes.
