The book is the first systematic study on the history of pubic library movement of Kerala. It examines the crucial role played by the Kerala Grandhasala Sanghom for the growth and development of library movement in the state. For the last seven decades the Sanghom served the people of Kerala as an informal educational institution providing educational, political, cultural and social enlightenment. The study attempts to throw adequate light on the history of library movement and its relevance in the socio-cultural milieu of Kerala. More over it seeks to evaluate the movement’s socio-cultural contribution in the making of modern Kerala.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A. Paslithil

Dr. A. Paslithil is a learned scholar in history and library science. He obtained Ph.D. from the University of Kerala. He was the former general secretary of the Kerala Library Association. Now he is working as a Faculty Member in the Deptt. of History, Sri Sankrarchary University of Sanskrit, Kalady. He is also serving the South Indian History Congress as an executive member. He has to his credit nearly thirty papers in National and International Seminars. He is a member in the Academic Council of Sri Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit.
