Involving premier research institutes and laboratories of the country — the Indian Council of Medical Research initiated a research project aimed at specifying the quality standards of important medicinal plants of India. As an outcome of the said project, individual monographs have been prepared for various plants encompassing detailed pharmacoguostic and phytochemical studies coupled with other necessary information. The Council plans to publish these monographs though a series of books, and three vols. of the series have been released so far which cover a total of 104 plants.
