This book contains Oleographs or art prints which were printed for art purpose alone by the artist's press for creating awareness among the common public. Many have the opinion that these prints are calendar prints, printed for some company and hence regard Ravi Varma a calendar artist, which is not true, as calendar prints do carry the companies name which got them printed for advertisement purposes in a much later period.
As the case with most antiques, these prints were brought out at comparatively huge costs and were sold at high price even before hundred years. No wonder they are expensive even now, thereby increasing the difficulty of collecting the same. The subjects given in this book are so chosen that they are very clear and well preserved without any damage from the whole lot of prints, to give the reader the best available from our collection. It so happened that I collected many prints of the same subjects since prints of good condition were not the first ones I got. I feel extremely glad and intrigued to know that the collection of Ravi Varma's Oleographs has almost come to an end.
