Rasaratnasamuccaya consists of thirty chapters. In the first eleven chapters various medicinal substances with their classifications have been described from all angles along with information about various accessories required. In the first chapter Mercury along with its properties and origin, types etc. have been described. Sixth, seventh and eighth chapter are important as they describe teacher and students of Rasasastra, construction of manufacturing unit and terminologies of Rasasastra. Ninth and tenth chapters are meant for various equipments and fireplaces and their construction and uses. Eleventh chapter describes various units of measurements and various processes to which mercury is subjected. The author himself has accepted that all this information is compiled from Rasarnava etc. texts. Acarya Vagbhata has mentioned a verse about Drti from Acarya Somadeva in which nonpossibility of production of Drti is said. It is mentioned that without the blessings of Lord Sankara its formation is impossible. Eventhough this verse is quoted, still many methods of production of Drtis are compiled in this compendia.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR V.A. Dole

Dr. Dole obtained graduate & postgraduate degrees from Tilak Ayurveda Mahavidya laya, Pune. He is working in the department of Rasashastra since 1973. His books on Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana written in Marathi language are very popular amongst students, presently he is Professor & Head of Department of Rasashastra & Joint director of Centre for Research in  Ayurveda.
