Rediscovering Rabindranath

The work evaluates the socio-cultural and humanistic philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore. It examines the global outlook of Tagore in the context of the views of some noted thinkers who have emphasised peace. The contributions to the volume explain Tagore’s vision, bearing reference to the message in the Vedas, the impact of Hinduism and Brahminism on his philosophy, the need to free oneself from arrogance and the pull of the ego as emphasised by Islam, and his views on Jesus Christ. Referring to his plays, poems and other works, they explore his creative philosophy of dance, the spirit of humanism in his works, reflection of Islamic symbolism in his works and transcendence as an aspect of existentialism in his philosophy. It views his aesthetic vision and his contributions towards environmentalism, rural construction, peace education and betterment of women.
