The two most significant areas of human resource development and creation of employment opportunities, and the empowerment of women workers, particularly in the unorganised sector, have been discussed at length in the present publication comprising a comprehensive reform prospectus for rural development. The ciritical areas covered include Economic Development and Investment; Self Employment—Prospects, Problems and Solutions; Issues of Migration and Alleviation of Rural Poverty is among others. The companion volume on women workers profiles such important issues such as: Current Trends of Employed Women in The International Context; Tribal Women and their Participation in Development, Marginalised Women Workers and Government Initiatives in Economic Empowerment among others. While each of these volumes would by itself be a significant source of research, the two volumes together would be indispensable to acquire a total picture of the ground realities in this crucial activity of rural development, where much more needs to be done at all levels of policy making, planning, implementation and administration of related programmes. It is hoped that the present publication will provide a few necessary road signs on the path of rural development.
