No doubt, transitional stage is not yet over and many questions regarding liberalized policy regime have yet to find the answer. One of them is whether New Economic Policy (NEP), characterized with privatisation, liberalization and globalization, would help to reduce the inter-regional inequality in overall economic development. The present book concentrates on this issue. The study highlights the nature, pattern and magnitude of regional disparities in economic development in Indian states during 1961-91 and since 1991 onwards under the new policy regime. The book also provides an indepth analysis of sectoral changes during the study period. Important implications have been derived to reduce regional disparities under the NEP which merit the attention of planners and policy-makers.
