Rural and Urban Development of India

The ministry of rural and urban areas is implementing various programmes for providing avenues for employment to most disadvantaged sections of the society through special employment generation programmes and for improvement in quality of life in rural and urban areas. The ministry has provided for specific guidelines in the programmes being implemented to ensure adequate flow of resources to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The main objective of Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) is to create employment opportunities for self-employment in rural areas for families living below poverty line so that they can generate additional income to enable them to cross the poverty line on a sustained basis. The ministry of rural and urban development is engaged in bringing about rapid and sustainable development and socio-economic transformation in rural and urban areas in India. It has an integrated perspective towards improving the quality of life of rural poor and ensuring equity and effective people’s participation.
