The present study is a systematic research for an understanding of the people’s perception of development, and an attempt to assess the extent to which such perceptions are at variance with the professed objectives of development/rural development. This book provides a comprehensive understanding of the country’s ongoing processes of rural development. The author has used empirical evidences to highlight the levels and patterns of development in India’s rural remotes. The study focuses on the key issues relating to the awareness of the need for development change and identifies the threshold of development. Some problem areas in which development programmes have a positive impact have also been identified.
