In the recent past there has been a growing awareness of the need for studying regional history with an emphasis on socio-economic history. In order to understand the nature and pace of developmental process in Indian society, it is crucial to analyse the regional patterns of growth and variations therein. Rajasthan is one of the states which is being studied extensively on the basis of large mass of village and pargana documents but an analysis of the socio-economic conditions of its Harouti region has not been attempted so far despite the fact that there is no dearth of archival records about the region. The present study is therefore aimed at broadening the understanding on economic history of Rajasthan, with particular reference to the Harouti region. It covers not only land revenue system but also deals with agrarian economy and socio-economic structure of village society. An attempt is also made to understand the system of state farming. The book would, no doubt, become a good sourcebook for students of history and economics.
