This book comprises of eighteen research papers in which the various facets of Indian rural economy have been critically examined. Some of the papers analyse the impact of rural development programmes on intended target groups introduced from time-to-time. Some of the important facets covered in the volume include land reform, problems of the rural labour, rural credit, modernization of agriculture, agricultural marketing, panchayat raj, rural artisans, social forestry and the tribal problems. On the whole, the papers seek to emphasise that there is a lot to be done in future than what has been in the past and our future effort should be fundamentally aimed at restructuring the land relations in rural areas to achieve the desired results.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.V. Narayana

Dr. K.V. Narayana (b. 1952) is currently working as Lecturer in Economics at Kakatiya University. He got his Ph.D. from the same University in 1985. He is actively engaged in teaching and research in the areas of Macro Economics, Labour Economics and industrial Economics. So Far, he has published over one dozen articles in various reputed journals. currently, he is working on a major research project, sanctioned by the U.G.C.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR N.L. Murthy

Dr. N.L. Murthy (b. 1951) is currently working as Reader in Economics at Kakatiya University. He got his Ph.D. from the same University in 1984. He has been actively engaged in teaching and research in the areas of Political Economy, Labour, Economics and Rural Development. He is the co-author of two Books entitled Rural Economcis (Telugu), and Analytical Economics (English). Besides, he has published over two dozen articles in various reputed journals. Currently, he is directing a major research project sanctioned by U.G.C. on 'Workers in the Informal Sector'.
