Rural indebtedness is a socia-economics problem. The burden of indebtedness in rural India is great and falls mainly on households of rural working people. Indebtedness, in particular rural indebtedness gas long been treated as a distress phenomenon. It is found that, the moneylenders took unfair advantage of illiteracy, ignorance, credulity and helplessnes of rural people and specially farmers to extract money from them.

In this book an attempt has been made to study the rural indebtedness in Yavatmal district of Vidarbha region of Maharashrta in general. This study also discusses famer’s suicide due to the burden of loan and indebtedness. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Patil Narhari Govindrao

Dr. Patil Narhari Govindrao is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Jawaharlal Nehru College of Social Work, New Nanded. He obtained MSW degree from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He was awarded Ph.D. degree in Sociology by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded in the area of rural indebtedness. During his service tenure he has participated in a number of seminars and conferences at state and natinnal level. Now he is actively engaged in a research project entited "A Sociological Study of Farmer's Suicide in Nanded District of Maharashtra' funded by the university.
