Rural Sociology

Rural sociology, as a discipline has its own identity. Although, it is a branch of sociology, yet, it has a vast sphere and wide scope. It is an important area of study because most of the population of India lives in rural areas and India is basically an agrarian country, with an economy, based on agriculture produces, agro-industries and related trades. An attempt has been made in this book to present a comprehensive view of the rural Indian society. This book is, therefore, likely to be useful to students of social sciences in general and of sociology in particular, who are engaged in post-graduate or pre-doctoral studies. Consequently, special efforts have been made to make the contents of the book relevant to the syllabi of the various universities.
