The present monograph Samodhi (the facets of Bodh-Gaya) is the out come of Author’s pragmatic thought and reverence on Bodh-Gaya, the Land of enlightenment of Tathagata the Buddha. An attempt is made here to narrate the history (nucleus) of the growth & development of Bodh-Gaya region prior to Lord Buddha’s advent there, on the holy bank of niranjana and its subsequent growth & Developments as an important center of Buddhism and a place of pilgrimage to the Buddhist world over. With six chapters, the Author has given a vivid description of its growth & development, Episodes connected with Pre and Post enlightenment. Asoka’s pilgrimage & Continuity of the reverence in unbroken sequences to the place otherwise known is the literature as Mohabodhi or Sambodhi and to transform it as a center of Art & Architecture. This book on Bodhgaya, I think will be of interest for a common reader as well as for researchers.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Arvind Mahajan
Dr. Arvind Mahajan, born on December 10th, 1961, at Gaya (Bihar), is an Officer in Patna Museum, Patna. He has a brilliant academic record to his credit. He did his post-graduation with specialization in Archaeology and Art from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya in the Year 1983 and was awarded Ph.D. in the year 1987 from the same University. Subject of his Ph.D. research was "A Study of the Temples and Religious sites of Gaya Region (Ancient and Medieval). He has evinced his deep interest in study of the religio-philosophical and socio-economic background of the Indian art. He is a serious researcher and works in the field of cultural history, which envisages art, architecture, social anthropology and religious history. He has authored a number of valuable and thought provoking research-papers and book-reviews, published in various journals of India and abroad. Presently he is working on "Gaya Sraddha: A Cult for Eco-friendliness".
