The aim of this volume is to underline the importance of Sanskrit and to show its relevance for the study of Indian Philosophy, Religion, Art, Literature, Linguistic, and History of Science and Medicine. A Number of like-minded scholars who are engaged in teaching Sanskrit at different universities of the USA, the United Kingdom and India, have contributed results of their research to enrich the volume. The volume contains papers of the studies of Sanskrit as Language and Literature proper and also includes papers of Indian philosophy, arts, general and medical sciences and education as found in Sanskrit literature. The special feature of the volume is that each paper contained in it shows relevance of the study of Sanskrit. All the papers are written spacifically of this volume.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Bimal Krishna Matilal

Bimal Krishna Mitilal was Jubilee Scholar in 1954-56, and recipient of Hem Chandra Goswami Prize and Gold Medal in 1956. He was a Harvard-Yenching Fellow in 1962-64. Having obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard in 1965, he started teaching at the University of Toronto, Canada. He has been the Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at Oxford University and a Fellow of All Souls College. He was the founder-editor of the journal of Indian Philosophy. Among his important works are: The Navya-nyaya Doctrine of Negation; Epistemology, Logic and Grammar in Indian Philosophical Analysis; The Central Philosophy of Jainism Nyaya-Vaisesika; Logical and Ethical Issues of Religious Belief etc.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Purushottama Bilimoria

Dr. Purushottama Bilimoria, PhD is a Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Deakin University and Senior Fellow at Melbourne University.  He Has held fellowships and has lectured in universities in the USA, UK, Europe, Canada, and India.  Dr. Bilimoria is a visiting professor at State University of New York, Stony Brook and Columbia University.  He is an editor-in-chief of Sophia, an international journal for metaphysical theology; and co-editor of the two-volume compendia on Indian Ethics, and the Routledge History of Indian Philosophy.  He is currently editor of "Studies of Classical India Series."
