During the last century and the first half of the present century, the foreign missionaries tried to decipher the structure of Santali exploiting the traditional methodology. But the systematic observation and scientific analysis were missing due to their lack of scientific training in the subject. And finding such lacunae in the previous works the present author felt the need of a descriptive analysis of the language. The present work is a pioneering one in the field of Santali linguistics in the sense that modern linguistic technology has been adopted here to describe and analyse different types of morphemes of Santali. Introducing an ethnographic account of the Santals, their distribution and dispersal, their acculturation and language bejhaviour, the present work presents in a fairly exhaustive manner the essential details about the morphological structure. The expressive derivation which is developed to a high degree in Santali has been discussed in a fairly detailed way. For any student or user of Santali the book is an useful reference tool.
