The study draws an empirical profile of new dimensions of social change among scheduled castes of India. Major dimensions of social change in the field of social structure, occupation, economic, condition, political, participation and affiliation, education, health, housing and reservation quota are analysed. An endeavour has been made to investigate into the impact of the modern forces on the scheduled castes. The well-known technique of inflow analysis has been adopted. The conclusions of the study are definitive and will be extremely useful in planning further descriptive studies on the subject in future.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Soran Singh

Dr. Soran Singh (b. 1934) graduated from Allahabad University, (1955) had Master’s degree in Sociology from Agra University (1957), Ph.D., Gorakhpur University, (1972). He is the Head, Postgraduate Deptt. of Sociology, Tilak Dhari College, Jaunpur. He has forty eight published articles and is the author of Samajik Niyantran aur Parivartan, Hamari Samajik Samasayen, Karl Marx Ki Chintan Dhara, Marxvadi Chintan, Socio-Economic conditions of Scheduled Castes in India. He is an active member of several professional associations. His areas of interest are: weaked Sections Development and Social movements.
