Selaginellaceae of India by R.D. Dixit is the first ever illustrated, taxonomic account of the family for India. No serious attempt has been made so far to study the family Selaginellaceae on all India basis except fragmentary publications available. Keeping in view of this lacuna of knowledge on the subject, the revisionary studies have been taken up. The present volume provides all important aspects on the family viz. : historical review and classification, fossil, cytology, propagation, fungal infection, variation in megaspores, economic importance, review of the work done in India, phytogeographic census and conservation strategies, key to the species, current nomenclature with important synonymy, detailed description, type citations, specimens examined, distribution, illustrations of diagnostic characters and photographs depicting habit etc. have been provided to facilitate easy identification in the field and herbarium.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR R.D. Dixit

Dr. R.D. Dixit obtained his Ph.D. on the taxonomic studies of Lycopodiaceae and Selaginellaceae of India in the year 1981 from Calcutta University under Prof. H.C. Gangulee.  He has published about 150 research papers and four books on pteridophytes only.  He has also undertaken extensive explorations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and exclusively collected pteridophytes.  At present, Dr. Dixit is Additional Director incharge for the Central Circle, B.S.I., Allahabad.
