Petrotech 2007, whose theme was "Energy, economy, equity and ecology", served as an effective platform for all players and stakeholders in the international oil and gas sector for interaction, discussion and learning from one another about the emerging knowledge, techniques and technology in the entire chain of the petroleum industry. It has provided an opportunity to drive maximum advantages for developing alliances and joint ventures to benefit from each others core competencies, know-how and expertise. Addressing the delegates on the opening day of Petrotech 2007 on January 16, India’s petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora had said that India has put in place a multi-pronged strategy, including faster exploration and acquisition of oil fields abroad, to secure energy at affordable rates. Inaugurating Petrotech – 2007, India’s Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee on January 16 called for sustained efforts to develop new, alternative and renewable sources of energy at an affordable cost.Petrotech 2007 proved that India has come a long way from being a closed economy during the cold war days to an emerging superpower of the globalization era.
