The shamans of the Changpa-namads of the Ladakhi highlands of Changthang belong to the Tibetan culture. Moderniy has reached even their remote world and challenges their life basis in a dramatic way. Their traditional healers, the shamans, recognize the disease of modernity the clearest. They envision the presence and future in trance, which bewail so much more violence in our times (more blood than ever before flows down the valleys), their admonitions get a remarkable actually. (The manuscript of this book was finished shortly after the 11th of September 2001). Hermetic amnesia follows the trance of the Changpa shamans. In the present book the author shows how one can understand them despite amnesia, how one can decipher their bridging of old and modern times and, in this way, bring their message also to the modern world.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ina Rosing
Ina Rosing, born in 1942, did a PhD in experimental psychology and another one in sociology, and is professionally trained psychotherapist, she received full professorship (tenure) at the Ulm Universitat in 1975, is Director of the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and a Full Member of the Heidelberg Academy of sciences. Since 1983 she relizes ethnopsychotherapeutic, ethnomedical and ethnological research in the Quechua-speaking Kallawaya-region of the Andes of Bolivia, with comparative research in south Peru and the Aymara-speaking region of Lake Titicaca. In 1994, she started her comparative research In the Himalaya, in Central Ladakh and Chanthang. Her research is financed by the German research Foundation, the Robert Bosch Foundation, and the Volkswagen Foundation. She received three major research prizes for her publication.
