Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) is essentially a smart card application in wireless services. SIM is a major component of the wireless market, paving the way to value-added services. Eventually new networks will have a common smart object and universal identification modules (UIM), performing functions similar to SIM Cards. SIM technologies are evolving SIM memory sizes have gone up from 8kb through 16kb. IC fab processes for SIMs have also evolved right down to 0.18 to 0.13 micron technologies. Electronics Today, India’s first Techno-Economics Electronics Monthly Journal, now in 37th year of publication, organized an International Conference on “SIM Cards and Value Added Technologies” during Smart Cards Expo 2004/ e-Security 2004/Rfindindia Expo 2004 on September4, 2004. This volume is a compendium of the papers presented at the conference.
