“Small Towns and Regional Development†deals with population characteristics and role of small urban centers in regional development. Urbanization and development are inter-linked. Urban centers, big or small, affect their surrounding areas. The small towns are most intimately integrated with rural areas and provide services and commodities, small urban centers act as linked chains between rural area and higher order urban centers. Through this book an attempt is made to concentrate on small urban centers of North Bihar Plain which can play a dominant role in development of their surrounding areas. Various indices of socio-economic development have been taken as tool to examine demographic characteristics and the role of small towns in rural transformation of less developed region and backward areas. Recent data have been studied in separate chapter entitled “Regional Population: Contemporary Directionsâ€, 2001, which enhance to utility and effectiveness of the book. This book, therefore, will certainly help planners, researchers, students, teachers, government officials to carry the objectives of development processes.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Vinay Nath Jha
Dr. Vinay Nath Jha, Son of Late Professor Mahinath Jha, born on 25th of August, 1959, passed B.A., Hons., (Geography), M.A. (Geography) and Ph.D. from the L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga, Dr. Jha is serving as senior teacher of Geography at M.L.S.M. Colelge, Darbhanga since 29th July, 1982. During his doctoral research period he also taught P.G. students at University Department of Geography, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga from July, 1983 to July, 1986. He has keen interest in Urban and Regional Planning and Population Geography. He is actively engaged in research work and supervising a couple of research scholar for their Ph.D. work. He has published more than 10 research papers in the reputed geographical journals. He has actively participated and presented papers in as many as 25 seminars, symposia, National Conferences and Congresses. He is privileged to be life members of NAGI (New Delhi), APGI (Chandigarh), AGBJ (Patna) and Founder Member of MAG (Darbhanga), GAS (Gaya), The social profile (Patna), M.B.B.C. (Sidhi, MP). He has also published more than 12 geographical essays in Maithili Magazine "Mithila Mihir" and has given about 15 Radio Talks on Geogrpahical issues, broadcasted from Darbhanga, All India Radio Station. He has produced only one book is your hand till date.
