This study focuses on the social base of the political disobedience launched against the colonial sovereigns i.e. the British Crown and the parliament by the Gandhian Congress. If aims also at identifying in socio-economic terms, the participation of the people as well as interaction of castes, communities and various religious groups living in the subcontinent, within the context of loose political ideology placed by Gandhi before the nation. The study also tries to include class collaboration and harmony interspersed with latent class conflict and the impact of all this on the future trends as manifested in post-independence era. Naturally, therefore to coordinate these contradictions and ironies, is an up-hill task and the assessment could be argued as controversial at some points but it is attempted with an intent of honesty and objectivity.
