I deem it an honour in writing the Preface to this book “Some Aspects of Sanskrit Drama and Dramaturgy” which consists of twenty valuable research articles on the subject by Dr. S.S. Janaki.  Most of the articles have been published in various reputed research journals of the world.  I had come to know that great personality, Dr. S.S. Janaki from 1988 when I jouind the K.S.R. Institute and started working under her.  My colleagues were fortunate to have come under her wings even before me, by 1982, first as her students and later as associates.  This book is of great value to researchers in the field of Sanskrit drama and dramaturgy.  The first half of the book deals with well-known dramas but brings forth their unknown depths.  The second half deals with less known dramatic genres like Bhanas, Uparupakas and the use of natya prayogas in them.  The last article is a tribute paid by the author to her guru Dr. V. Raghavan by way of presenting the bibliography of Dr. Raghavan’s contribution to Drama.
