Sonar Taree (Golden Craft)

Sonar Taree was my first popular book, the first that gathered a group of readers who became my admirers. Perhaps Manashi was the first to do this, but Sonar Taree gave me my place… Most of the Gitanjali pieces were written at Santiniketan (1907-1910)… I used to write almost every day and sometimes at night.  I did not intend to publish them.  I knew people would be disappointed, and would say that after Sonar Taree they were poor.  But I knew they were very intimately my own." (Rabindranath Tagore got the Nobel prize in literature in 1913).
