University Shimla and held numerous other positions such as Dean of Social Sciences, of Arts and of Languages, etc. He has been visiting Professor too at Indian Universities and abroad. He has had many fellowships: Fulbright, Smith-mundt of Hazen Foundation, University of Wisconsin, H.P. Academy, HRD, Indian Institute of Advanced Study. Som P. Ranchan is known for his renaissance rangings.
