Since time immemorial, flower growing in India has been an integral part of culture. Traditional methods in flower production have changed during the last two decades due to active patronage of Govt. of India inducing radical changes in commercial floriculture. new concepts of flower production with hitech pre and post-harvest production technologies, and also new flowers and improved export quality cultivars have been introduced. Attempt has also been made to keep the readers of this book abreast with the changing scenarios of commercial flower growing in India. ABOUT THE AUTHOR D. Mukherjee

Dr. Debasish Mukherjee holds the M.Sc. (Ag.) (recipient of Gold Medal) and Ph.D. Degree in Horticulture from the Calcutta University. He retired as a Scientist and deputy Director, Institute of Himalayan Bioresource technology (CSIR), H.P. after serving there for 15 years. He standardized the greenhouse and agro-technologies for many high value flowers and trained more than 200 entrepreneurs and growers to initiate and develop commercial floriculture in Himachal Pradesh. Dr. MUkherjee has guided 14 Ph.D. and M.Sc (Ag.) students and has 10 US Patents and 90 research publications to his credit. He has authored two books and contributed chapters in four others. As a guest of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Dr. Mukherjee has visited different institutes of Poland. The Horticulture Society of India, New Delhi awarded the Gold Medal in Floriculture for 2006 to him for his outstanding contributions in the field of Floriculture. He has received awards twice from the Rotary International (Palampur, H.P.) and also from the Agri-Horticultural Society of India, Kolkata for his significant contributions for the development of Floriculture in Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.
