Democratic Federal Republic of India is nearly half century old now. A half century is no less time for maturing and seasoning of any political system of governance. Are we a matured democracy? Instead of developing a Swadeshi system of polity and political culture, we adopted and carried on the British colonial legacy in administering our national affairs and government. The result a severely ill political party system, criminalisation of politics, growing regionalism, secessionist and terrorist activities, communalism, casteism, poll rigging and booth capturing and what not. The present volume encyclopaedic in nature, is a vivid description of the state-wise political developments in India since the inception. Emergence of state, political parties and leadership, their performance in different general elections, formation of governments, different issues etc. are categorically narrated, supported by the relevant facts and data. The systematically arranged information, contained in this volume is of immense value and utility to the researchers, academics, political thinkers and activists as well as general readers interested in the politics and political history of India.
