ABOUT THE AUTHOR V.V. Athani

The author was a senior professor of Electrical Engineering at IIT, Mumbai. He has pioneered the design and development of Stepper Motors, and their microprocessor-based controllers in India. He has also to his credit the design and development of both VR (variable reluctance) and PMH (permanent magnet hybrid) stepper motors, including speciality motors for space applications, as well as the design of World Class Microstepping Controller capable of yielding microstepping ratio of upto 128 and microstepping rate of upto 2.56 MHz. He presented research papers at the International Conference on Electrical Machine at Brussels in 1978, International Conference of Stepping Motors and Systems at Leeds in 1979, and International Conference on Electrical Rotating Machines at Mumbai in 1992. His more than 20 research papers are published in international journals and conference proceedings.
