The desired level of success in working with the farmers may be attained by applying the results of research extension work. The research studies contained in this book shall help the institution and organization working with the farmers to conduct their extension and promotional programmes more effectively. Credit can generate accelerated economic growth only when the amounts taken as loan are repaid in time. Recovery of bank loans is not a matter of chance. The first study has identified four variables which significantly discriminate between the regular and defaulter credit users. The banking and financial institutions can improve their recovery farm loans by applying the results of research in their methods of working. To increase crop production on a sustained basis, it is essential to increase the level of fertilizer use by the farmers. The second study has identified some important variables promotion more effective for a large and increasing population, it is most essential to increase the productivity of crops on a sustained basis. The third study gives clear indication on how this can be done. The need for research findings in extending technologies other than crop production is urgently felt. The fourth study indicates how the adoption of recommended species of fish in composite fish culture can be increased. Development of management ability of the farmers is a crucial need of the day. The fifth study has identified the management attributes of farmers as related to profitability in farming. The studies contained in this book indicate that there is some university in elements which the extension workers may use, irrespective of the technology the farmers are pursuing. The findings have implications for India and other developing countries ask well. The teachers, students and research scholars shall be benefited by the methodology and analyses used and the new scales and tests developed in these studies.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR G.L. Ray

Dr. G.L. Ray (b. 1928) , graduated in Agriculture from University of Dhaka, now in Bangladesh and got M.Sc. and Ph. D. degrees in Agricultural Extension from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He was awarded ICAR Golden Jubilee medal in M.Sc. highest grade point average. His area of specialization Teaching, Training research, Transfer of Technology, Communication, Administration, Management and Field Work in extension. He supervised five Ph.d. these in Agricultural Extension and is also Editor, Indian journal of Extension. He has published more than fifty research papers and three books including studies in Agricultural Extension and Management (1989). Currently he is Professor of Agricultural Extension, Bidhan Chandra Kririshi viswavgidyalaya, Dist. Nadia, West Bengal.
