The volume tries to present a comparison and competition of the Indian contribution to the scientific study of language for last 2500 years or more, with the modern learning on the subject.  This bringing together of tradition and modernity should enable the traditional learning to present her in modern terms and gain vitality and strength to appear with youthfulness.  Further it attempts to highlight the importance of the study of traditional grammar and the linguistics principles developed in this country and show the global rele-vance of the issues under consideration.  The volume starts with the excellent paper of Prof. S.D. Joshi which serves as an introduction to the whole volume in the form of keynote address.  Other distinguished scholars who have contributed to the volume are: Prof. B.B. Chaubey, Hosiarpur, Prof. Satyanarayan Chakrabarty, Calcutta, Prof. Usha Devi, Hyderabad, Prof. H.C. Patyal, Prof. M.D. Pandit, Prof. V.P. Bhatt, Poona, Prof. K.N. Jha, Allahabad, Prof. K.R. Joshi, Nagpur and many more.  The articles cover a wide range of topics from Panini to modern linguistics from Nyayamimamsa to Kashmir Saivism, from Eastern language to Southern language, from early Vedic to late classical languages.  The papers included in this book show that we were not ready to take conclusions once and for all; we did not want to end up with final statements on issues but we struggle to bring out the complexities of the issues and show the fascinations of human mind to dive deep into the unknown realms or depths of understanding.  Philosophizing means the articulations of the intellectual form of our understanding.  This book contains reason to bombard our understanding and change it for the better.
