Sangam literature is a treasure house for researchers. The golden age of the Tamils has come to light in recent years. They had excelled in various fields in the early days of civilizations. ABOUT THE AUTHOR V. Balambal

Dr. (Mrs.) V. Balambal, M.A., B.T., Ph.D., F.R.A.S. (London), is serving as Professor of History in the University of Madras. She was the recipient of Bagusudam Guruswamy Sastrigal Prize, Iravatham Prize and Sivabogam Prize from the Madras University in 1968. She has authored two books namely Feudatories of South India and Paluvettaraiyars and as many as sixty research papers which have been publisehd in national and international journals. She has participated and presented papers in international conferences held in U.S.A., Sri Lanka, Canada, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, South Africa and Thailand. She has also visited U.L., France and Maccau. She is on eof the HOnorary Editors of Agri History, quarterly journals, published by ICRISAT, Patencheru, A.P., and member of variuos academic organisations. She is currently working on Social and Cultural History of Tamilnadu and Women's Studies.
