ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ranajit Guha

Ranajit Guha taught history for many years at the University of Sussex in England. In 1980 he joined the Australian National University where he wrote on South Asian History at the Research School of Pacific Studies. His publication include A Rule of Property for Bengal: An Essay on the Idea of Permanent Settlement and Elementary Aspects of Peasant Insurgency in colonial India.
