The Himalaya, a richest source of plant wealth and abound in innumerable interesting plant species. The floristics of this region is however not fully worked out. The book deals with the Polygonaceae of the Himalayas. Systematics of Polygonaceae continues to be a vexed question owing to the variability among the taxa of this family. The book presents a comprehensive account of 10 genera and about 70 species of the Polygonaceae with an over all assessment of the characterization of tribes, genera and species based on cumulative morphological evidence, reinforced with data on pollen morphology and epidermal studies. The text comprises 65 plates including drawings and photographs illustrating aspects of comparative morphology. A systematic treatment of the subject has been attempted down to lower hierarchail levels and several generic realignment have been suggested based on pollen morphology and epidermal studies in addition to chromosome numbers and phytogeography. In short the book is a major re-evaluation of then group and will be of interest to many a botanist. Several changes in the nomenclature of species have been incorporated. It is hoped that the material presented in the book will be of immense value in the compilation of the national flora and for formal revisions.
