In 1987, the University Grants Commission established Academic Staff Colleges (ASCs) all over the country to conduct orientation and refresher courses for the teachers of the universities and colleges. The present study tried to evaluate the impact, both first-stage and second stage, of such courses. For the purpose of the study the Centre for Professional Development in Higher Education, Delhi University was selected. The courses held since January 1991 to December 1994 have been covered. The study includes the participants’ experiences and perceptions regarding the impact of the courses on their knowledge, attitudes, skills, and other relevant behavioural dimensions, as well as the transference of learning to the work places of the participants. This book is important as it gives an insight into various dimensions of the UGC sponsored courses. It will be useful for the academicians at all the levels of education. It will also be useful for administrators and the policy makers.
