Home Science subject centres around home and family since its inception. It was originally conceptualized as an interdisciplinary applied science drawing upon knowledge from physical, biological and social science to enhance family welfare. It is a field which started as the need for training for girls in the context of changes in the socio-economic structure as well as changes in the family systems and functions. In this way this subject had placed an, excessive emphasis on training for the domestic roles of women and on household technologies. Thus, it resulted in a segregated educational opportunities for Gils without changing the patriarchal status quo. Home Science, thus emerged as a specialized education for women indirectly restricting them to home and familial roles. In the past years, Home Science has undergone many changes in it content and focus. The new era has brought about several new challenges to the family. Economic necessities and the leisure time released by science have brought out an increasing number of women t seek wage earning activities and jobs outside their homes. Thus it indicates that they get knowledge, abilities and training in the skill development for combining successfully home making, career and duty to the community. In this context it becomes necessary to provide professional training to girls in Home Science. This book has brought about latest concepts of Home Science and the ways to impart the subject in the technical way.
