The place of teacher in India is very respectable and it reflects the socio cultural ethos of society and not people can rise above the level of its. After independence India has got the British system of Education for the development of country and country men but we should not forget that British system of Education having its own structure and functions in heritage and a concerted efforts has been made since, then to utilize that heritage in order to achieve comparable results by democratic means; though we pledged in 1950 on the 26th day of January. We could not fulfill this pledge to this date? The simple answer is no. Because we never try to understand the democratic and reason is that we do not educate out nation people. Only we give this responsibly to the teachers but and the main problem was related with our social-cultural relation in the country. The goal of life is to get good and effective education related with our social and cultural activates for which we have need good and effective social study teachers. But now day’s good teachers of social study are not available in the Indian schools. One of the main reasons is that in planning the syllabus of social study at secondary and higher secondary school level. The social study teacher must know the teaching acts and acquire teaching skills and classroom teaching rules with teaching theories. The present book is the outcome of the author an it is a humble effort to present the problems of social study teacher and related to their classroom-teaching programs, as author has perceived. The innovations related lesson plan, teaching lesson plan, classroom skills and teaching concepts are also included in this book for students as well as for teachers of social study. The readers of social study field will decide its utility, if this volume may give any benefit to them. It will be this success. Almost ever aspect of social science included problems of history; economics, geography and sociology are covered in this book. The book consists of fourteen chapters. The author has suggested and given some ideas to solve the social study teacher’s problems. He has also suggested that only if there are a large number of idealistic trained teachers and education workers devoted to the cause then the country can solve the sociological problems of each school that are situated in villages and cities. The author is highly thankful for the publisher to publish this book named-“Teaching of Social Studies”.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Y.K. Singh

Dr. Y.K. Singh (b. 1964) obtained his three Post-graduation in 1988 and M.Ed. in 1984 from Meerut University, Meerut. He obtained his Ph.D. in Education from Meerut University in 1992 and started his professional career as a Lecturer in Education in a Teacher's training College, Ajmer (1988-89), Rajasthan University, Jaipur, (1981-91) and has served as a lecture in the department of education from (1991-2000) and Asst. Director, Institute of Information and Science (2002-2003) with In-Charge, Computer Centre from (Sept., 2000 to Nov., 2003), in Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya, Chitrakoot (Sama), M.P. He has obtained his computer certificates and diploma from the New Horizon's, Lodhi Road, New Dlhi (between 2000 to 2003). It is one of the best institution in computer training and education inIndia. Dr. singh has to his credit nearly 22 Research Papers and ARticles published in various outstanding Journals of repute; attended and actively participated in more than 15 regional, National Seminars, Conferneces and Workships. Life members and office bearers of some professional and academic associations and is a teacher and researcher in the field of Education. Dr. Singh has written more than 23 books in the language of Hindi and English. He has conducted more than 5 educational research projects and his areas of interest besides the present one are Education for rural people and Visually Handicapped, Psychology of Education, Research Methodology, Teacher Education, Technology of Teaching, School Administration and Supervision. He is memebr and advisor in many national and Internationa committees. Dr. Singh has visited so many countries, i.e., Japan in the year 2000-2001, Ching Mai University, Ching Mai, Thailand in the month of Dec. 2003 to attend Malaysia and Singapore to udnerstand their education system.
