This book is intended to make a beginning in this director by discussing in detail about principles and concepts of extension growth and development of India’s rural reconstruction and community development, current panchayat raj system, animal husbandry programmes and co-operatives, rural sociology, educational psychology, extension systems, extension methods and aids, communication of innovations, programme planning, evaluation and livestock marketing extension. A textbook remains valuable only when it is modified to take account of new developments. This edition is thoroughly revised and greatly enriched in both quality and quantity. A few new chapters have been added. Most of the examples given have been taken from Indian experience in general and author’s own experience in particular. It could be highly fitting to express the sincere gratitude to the predecessors who have authored extension education in community development, which gave an insight into various concepts in the field of extension.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR P Mathialagan
Dr. P Mathialagan, extension education scientist is having vast experience in the field of animal husbandry extension education. He has graduated from the Madras Veterinary College, Chennai and later completed Ph.D. in Animal Husbandry Extension, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. He was awarded M.A. Degree in Literature by Madurai Kamaraj University. Hindustan Institute of Journalism, Delhi, awarded Diploma in Journalism. He was awarded Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Technology by the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad. In his earlier years he spent ten years at the State Animal Husbandry Department as Veterinary Assistant Surgeon and Extension officer of Animal Husbandry and later joined the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai. Presently he is serving as an Associate Professor Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. California International University awarded Doctorate for his contribution towards Animal Husbandry Science through Tamil Language for the benefit of farming community. He has written more than 50 books about Science, Management and Literature. He is the Honorary Editor of a monthly "Thannambikkai" (Self-Confidence). His communication ability was recognized by the Government several times. He stood State first in the Oratory competition conducted by Government of Tamil Nadu. Department of Co-operatives in 1974. He won the 'Best Writer Award' of this State during 1986 and 1987 for his book Mattuppannai (Dairy Farming) and Kozhippannai (Poultry Farming). He was awarded "Paventhar Pugal Parappunar" title by the Government of Tamil Nadu for his contribution towards literature in 1992. TAP foundation adjudged him as "Master Genius" for the year 1993. Rotary International awarded the 'Best Youth Award' for the year 1997. He has visited Australia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.
