The present book is an outcome of sincere scholarly exercise done by the authors. The book attempts to explore aht ethnography and the problems of Artisan Tribes of Bihar (now Jharkhand) and West Bengal states. Artisan Tribes are engaged in the activities of craft making since time immemorial. They have been supplying the crafts prepared by them to agricultural Tribes of the region in which they live. They have also maintained the Jajmani relation with the Hindu castes of the region engaged in agriculture. But now-a-days, they are facing various kind of problems due to machine made articles available at cheap rate in the markets of their region. There is no separate scheme of the Government to make the Artisan Tribes developed. They are struggling hard to maintain their existence. Majority of them have become labour from craft-makers. Till now no systematic and detail study of the Artisan Tribes under study has been done. The book is unique contribution on the holistic study of the Artisan Tribes namely, Lohra, Karmali, Mohali and Chick Baraik.
