The novel The Coloured Curtain is a translation of the Tamil Novel Chayathirai which is quite a significant novel in modern Tamil literature. The author portrays the reality of life in Tirupur pleasantly convered with a coloured curtain. He excels in the depiction of sorrow page after page by throwing light on illusion and reality, life and death, beauty and rubbish by tearing open the coloured curtain. It is remarkable that a uniform tone of depiction is maintained throughout the novel. Be it the portrayal of hunger or gluttony, love or disappointment, rise or fall, the voice and the feeling too are one and the same. The characters come alive in all their passions, appetites, delusions and deceptions. This novel’s devastating attack on human carelessness, greed and irresponsibility will linger with the reader long after he has completed reading it. P. Raja is a Professor and a Freelancer. He has published many short stories, poems, plays translations, features and book-reviews in different newspapers, magazines and journals. He has written scripts for Delhi Doordarshan Kendra. He has authored several books. Pondicherry University has honoured him with a Literary a Literary Award for the year 1987.

He is the winner of Air India-Kumudam weekly literary award for best novel. His stories have been translated into various Indian regional languages, English and Hungarian languages. His books are prescribed as textbooks in various universities. He is the editor of Tamil quarterly Kanavu since 1987.
