The treatise is a maiden attempt to find out the cultural heritage of Jajpur which remained the capital of Orissa from 7th century AD under the Bhoumakara rulers. Certainly up to the Somavamsi rule that is middle of eleventh century. Even here this author has tried to establish the antequities of the place s back as 3rd century A.D. Buddhism had its heyday under some Bhouma kings which caused cultural epoch due to establishment of Viharas in Ratnagiri, Udayagiri etc. and also many other monuments which can be regarded as examples of unique architectural epoch. So also Saivism flourished under the direct patronage of the Somavamsis. The most important is the development of Saktism as a safe refuge for Buddhist theology like Vajrayana and Kalachakrayana along with strengthening the Brahmanical order. Thus the present study will help in correct assessment of the evolution of religious philosophies in Odissa which caused cultural growth in this region. The epigraphical records given in this work have been rightly studied and have been placed before the readers for the first time which will help in reconstructing the history of this ancient place.
