The Desperate Delta: Social Ecology of Sunderbans

The whole deltaic region is gasping under the darkest cloud of exploitation, torture and suffering. The greatest exploiter of the biotic world of this delta is Man. And the fiercest enemy is hunger. Ironically the bi-ped animals that created such vicious atomosphere parade this globe as saviour of environment, society and culture. They proudly claim top positions on the evolutionary ladder. Based on empirical research this book narrates the process of struggles, at different levels, that are being continuously carried out by the inhabitants of the Sunderbans. This is perhaps the first attempt by an anthropologist to study man-nature nexus through an ecosystemic approach.
