A perfect companion for those with a thirst for knowledge, this book, the first of its kind in India, is designed to provide ready references on contemporary thought. Such dictionaries abound in advanced countries: indeed they are a measure of development. This volume seeks to promote this concept in India. Its particular relevance is that it includes Indian, Asian and Third World items which are conspicuously absent in Western dictionaries. Even the Dictionary of Religions or the Encyclopedia of Living Faith does not say, for example, what is Agrasara of Hindutva. The Dictionary of Modern Thinkers makes no mention of Satyajit Ray or a single Indian scientist. This dictionary provides answers to questions arcane and everyday in a minute, explains concepts, ideas and issues lucidly and succinctly and is the perfect companion for those with a thirst for knowledge. Alphabetically arranged, it examines related terms together. The entry under Internet covers also Packets and Gateways, ASII and IRC, Protocols like TCP/IP and FTP, the World Wide Web, http, Hyper Text, e-commerce, Cybercash and so on. Invaluable for researchers, academics, journalists, businessmen, information gatherers, and for simply anyone, this book is a collector’s item.
