Governance as a new paradigm of public management emerged in the last decade of the twentieth century. It is currently the dominant mode of collective societal problem-solving. The core argument of ‘governance’ that has attracted universal attention is the widening of the concept of public administration which has traditionally been technocratic and mono-institutional, focusing almost exclusively on ‘formal’ government. Accepting the role of ‘market’ and acknowledging ‘people’ as administrators opens up possibilities of devising alternative forms of governance. With the introduction of new information and communication technology (ICT), traditional bureaucracy-centric public administration is fast undergoing a radical change towards citizen-centric, networked form of public management. Both ideationally and practically, the present anthology serves to familiarize interested readers–particularly scholars and administrators–with the new trend towards contemporary public management thinking. This volume will be useful for students and scholars of politics, public administration, and governance.
