As a sequel to Rajiv Gandhi’s murder, Congress was finding itself as if orphaned. At that moment, many Congress leaders wanted Sonia Gandhi to enter into politics and to project her Prime Ministership and, thus, to pave way other than this could not be a better opportunity for Sonia Gandhi to get Prime Ministership. Sonia too was well aware of this, but she did not act so. She came out before the congress supporters clearly telling to excuse her; she wanted to keep distance from politics anyhow. She wanted to convey that so far, Nehru-Gandhi family had already sacrificed blood for this country, and now some others too must get a chance to serve the nation. After this, Narashimha Rao was chosen as Prime Minister. Even when Sonia was trying to distance herself from politics, some congress leaders were such that they used to knock at Sonia’s door, regularly for complaining against the then Prime Minister Rao. Perhaps, they were of the impression that Sonia’s power was not less than that of Prime Minister Rao and that, if need be, she could speak with Rao. Sonia was approached by them for many matters concerning Rao. This lead to deterioration of dual relationships between Sonia and Rao. Many foreign diplomats too started seeing Sonia without seeking permission form the office of Prime Minister. This created the impression that there is a power over and above that of Rao that had a verbal recognition. Sonia never tried to be with any one; rather the people themselves started being with her. This was a strange achievement of her personal nature. People in general believe that some Gandhi got famous due to her belongingness as a daughter in law of Nehru-Gandhi family. However, those who maintain this must also see that the fame of every person is grounded in the person’s personal trait itself only. If a person does not possess an appropriate way of thinking, understanding and behaving with others, no one would like to be in contact with the person. Such a person would remain isolated and selfish.
