The present study tries to illustrate some of the many steps which are in the process of change as a great change has been effected in the measure of our information about the regions of farther India on the north-west. Long ago all that knew of frontier geography was narrowed to a few lines running west-ward from India and terminating in the cities of Afghan and Baluech islands. The hills which faced us on our won border on to which we could step from the planes, where still shrouded in mystery and our knowledge of the people was as shadowy as that of their land. In this study it is hoped that a few monor frontier episodes will be rescued from oblivion. The author has attempted to narrate the historical aspects very consistently and he has dealt with the frontier history in the capacity of a survey officer having list concern for the political responsibility.
