ABOUT THE AUTHOR Gen. Raj Kadyan
Lt. Gen. Kadyan, a retired Deputy Chief of the Army Staff, comes from a distinguished Army family of Haryana with over hundred years of military tradition. Winner of the President’s Gold Medal for being adjudged the Best All Round Cadet as well as the Silver Medal for standing first in the Overall Order of Merit from the National Defence Academy, a Recipient of three awards from the President and one from the Army Chief, the first Chief Instructor of the Black Cats- selected ‘in national interest’- he had an illustrious career. However, he became the only officer in Independent India who was not appointed an Army Commander despite being found fit in all respects. How and why did it happen? Why was he singled out? Was it to make room for someone favourite, or were some other factors at play? What did he lack?
