ABOUT THE AUTHOR Parshotam Mehra
Parshotam Mehra formerly Professor of History and Central Asian Studies at the Panjab University, chandigarh, has written largely on India's northern frontiers and relations with Tibet and China. Among his publications mentions may be made of The North-West Frontier Drama 1945-47: A Reassessment (1998); An 'Agreed' Frontier, Ladakh and India's Northern Borders (1992); Tibetan Polity 1904-37 (1976); and The McMahon Line and After (1974). He has also compiled A Dictionary of Modern Indian History 1707-1947 (1985, 1987). Another of his books, 'From Conflict to Conciliation: Tibetan Polity Re-visited' is due to appeaer later this year. In researching for the new edition Professor Mehra has in a fresh chapter, 'A Hundred Years On', taken due note of an impressive array of all the literature that has appeared on the subject since the book first went into print.
