Its documentation and analysis of India’s success in the science and technology sector should make the reader feel proud of the country, just as its analysis of the country’s failures in this sector should cause much concern amongst those committed to the country and to universal peace and prosperity in which equitable development of science and technology around the world is bound to play a major role. The authors’ motivation in writing this book has been to help prepare our citizens to discharge their social responsibility in the world of today dominated by science and technology, within a framework of knowledge, wisdom and values, and to make the international community aware of not only our successes and failures in science and technology but also our ability to understand and analyze them objectively, to help promote meaningful and mutually beneficial international cooperation in science and technology, both in the public and the private sector, while preventing harmful exploitation of our people and our resources by unscrupulous elements that exist everywhere, including our own country.
